Tuomi Logistics found the ideal solution for information management from Epical
Tuomi Logistiikka Oy, a joint procurement and logistics company, wanted to improve data utilization and data-driven management within the company. Data-driven management was a familiar concept to Tuomi Logistics (Tuomi Logistiikka), but the world of data warehouses and operating within it was new. Tuomi Logistics selected Epical as its partner for developing data-driven management through a public tender.
– This is a very significant collaboration in the sense that better utilization of data and data-driven management are part of Tuomi Logistics’ strategic goals. A new data-driven management platform was needed so that we can make even better use of the data generated in our operations and manage our activities correctly and in a timely manner with the help of reports, , says Matti Tuomiranta, ICT Manager at Tuomi Logistics.

Operational models in place in the pilot
Tuomi Logistics wanted to develop its data-driven management capabilities from financial, operational, and technical perspectives. The company’s goals included, for example, increasing the level of automation and providing users with broad access to reportable data. Epical has been able to meet these requirements.
– We built an MS Azure-based data warehouse and BI environment for Tuomi Logistics, implemented a pilot project, and laid the groundwork for broader data utilization. The technical environment and operating methods will be utilized in new areas going forward, says Epical’s Project Manager Pirkko Tuomainen.
The pilot project was already in use at Tuomi Logistics, and with the revamped reporting, data-driven management became a reality. Operational metrics were visibly recognized and they were very satisfied with the results.
A concise pilot and a controlled rollout ensured desired conditions for developing operating methods and the technical platform. The operating methods were fine-tuned and tested in the first implementation. Documentation was done carefully, and Tuomi Logistics thus gained access to ready-made templates for future use.
– The most significant changes concern our operating procedures. We have practiced data-driven management before, but now the approach is new. We have a better understanding of the data we utilize, says Tuomiranta.
A solution-oriented approach is a solid foundation for partnership
The collaboration between Tuomi Logistics and Epical has gone extremely well. Tuomi Logistics has benefited from Epical’s expertise in areas such as data-driven management, data modeling, and the selected technology. In addition, technical and operational expertise has been needed for report implementation.
–Epical’s attitude is quite solution-oriented, and Epical’s expertise is very evident in our collaboration. The experts get to the bottom of things and present and justify their views well before we make decisions, Tuomiranta praises.
The results have positively surprised end users, and at the same time, the appetite has grown. Plans are now in place to expand the solution to one target or data group at a time in collaboration with Epical. Once the groundwork has been thoroughly laid and the operating models are in place, it’s easy to move on to the next steps with confidence.
