Digital experiences bring the natural world to life with Nordens Ark
In a heartwarming mixture of innovation, sustainability, and education, Epical has proudly joined forces with the Swedish non-profit organization Nordens Ark to create something new and exciting. With the support from Epical, Nordens Ark wanted to transform the hospital experience for young patients in a way that promises to leave a lasting impact on both environmental efforts and children’s well-being.
Nordens Ark is a foundation dedicated to preserving endangered species and promoting biodiversity. Together with Epical, they want to bring the wonders of their park to children undergoing hospital treatment. Leveraging their expertise in digital innovation, Epical has developed a modern web application built on Amazon Web Services (AWS) that immerses children in the natural environment of Nordens Ark, providing them with an engaging and educational experience inspired by Nordens Ark’s conservation efforts.

Empowering children through digitalization
Recognizing the limitations faced by hospitalized children who are unable to physically visit the park, Nordens Ark sought to create a unique digital platform that would allow these children to connect with nature and the offering at the park digitally. Epical partnered with Nordens Ark to realize this vision and develop a user-friendly product specifically tailored to engage and inspire young patients during their hospital stay.

The platform’s interactive features, gamification elements, and educational content enable children to explore various habitats, discover endangered species, and learn about conservation efforts in an entertaining and accessible manner.
By bringing the natural wonders of Nordens Ark directly to children’s hospital bedsides, the digital platform fosters a sense of wonder, curiosity, and care for the environment. It aims to inspire a lifelong connection with nature, emphasising the importance of biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of biological resources.
“Nature and animals can contribute to increased quality of life and faster recovery during times of illness. Therefore, it feels fantastic to be able to contribute to children’s improved well-being through our product. To make this happen, we also get valuable financial support from the Swedish Inheritance Fund (Allmänna arvsfonden) and Bidragsstiftelsen,” Björn Johansson continues.
